Jell makes it easy to run stand-ups asynchronously within Microsoft teams.
Installing Jell as a Tab in Microsoft Teams
We’ll start by installing Jell as a Tab.
Go to the team and channel you want to add Jell to and click on the “+” sign at the top.
Search for Jell and sign in with your Microsoft account. Then, associate the channel with a new or existing standup. If you’re setting up Jell for the first time for your team, select “A new standup”.
If you were invited by someone from your team, select the standup/team you regularly work with to join your team.
Give your standup a name. This will also be the name of your team in Jell. Remember that you can have more than one standup or check-in in a single Jell account.
Add the email addresses for your team members. Don’t worry if you don’t have all of them now, you can add the rest later.
When you’re finished, Jell will post to your channel and the rest of your team members will be able to join Jell and start submitting their standup.
The Jell Standup tab is where you can submit your standup and view submissions from the rest of your team members.
Submitting your Jell Standup via the Tab
Go to the team channel you added it to, click on the Jell Standup Tab and click the button to start. Fill in your responses for your standup questions and click the Publish button.
Installing Jellbot
To install Jellbot in Teams:
- Click on Apps in the bottom left corner and type “jell’ in the search box.
- Click on the dropdown and select “Add to a team”
- Search for the team or channel you want to add Jellbot to
- Next to the Setup button, click on the dropdown and select “Set up a bot”.
Submit your standup or check-in using Jellbot
You can submit your standup when you get a reminder, or submit it at anytime.
- Click on the “Chat” button on the left sidebar,
- Click on Jell
- Make sure you’re in the “Chat” tab.
Tell Jellbot to “start” to get started
Jell bot will walk you through the questions in your standup. This is where you add items you completed the day before, what you plan on completing today, and any challenges or blockers you’re facing.
Your team will see your submission, if there’s a blocker, it gives you and your team members a chance to quickly resolve it, and of course, this is a great way to know what everyone on the team is working on towards completing your sprint goal.
When you’re finished, select to publish your standup or check-in.
View and add to your plans to your Workspace
You can pin Jell to your sidebar to get to it easily throughout the day as you need. Just click on the three-dotted menu button, search for Jell and click on “Pin”.
Click on the Jell icon in the left sidebar, then on the Workspace tab at the top.
Here you can see your current plans, for all the standups you’re part of if you’re part of more than one. You can add additional plans, future plans, and mark tasks as completed. You can also submit your standups from here.
